Distance Learning
Project | 01
Executive Summary

This project was a culmination of the work completed in the Distance Learning course. The objective of the course is to provide learners with techniques to adequately evaluate technologies for teaching distanced learners. The course focus also includes the development of instructional materials, the utilization of various technologies and evaluation techniques integrated into the instruction to serve several learning environments. As part of the final project, students were instructed to design and develop a course for distance learners using Blackboard Learn as the platform for instruction. screenwriting course for adult learners was created to meet the stated objectives. The artifacts provided contain an overview of the screenwriting course including course objectives and target audience, a sample lesson in the form of a screencast and an infographic.
The slideshow below also reveals additional materials created for the course including the course syllabus and course schedule. Discussion boards and wikis are used to increase collaboration between learners. These tools along with quizzes and a short paper are also used to evaluate student learning. The artifacts selected for this distance learning course in screenwriting were designed to accommodate learners with various abilities from diverse backgrounds. For the infographic, I chose to highlight films featuring culturally and gender diverse talent and content. Also, lessons for the course were delivered in multiple ways for learners with varying abilities. This included content delivered in an infographic which I reinforced by creating a screencast. This ensured the content was delivered in both audio and visual formats. Finally, included the University of Arkansas’ ethics standards in the course syllabus, so students were aware of the ethical principles used to guide the course.

Personal Reflection

The Distance Learning class brought together multiple skills learned throughout my learning and development journey and educational experience. I completed this class in the spring of 2019, my second semester of the Education Technology program. This course provided a foundational understanding of how to determine appropriate technologies for the learning task and environment. It also helped provide perspectives on how I can apply different technologies to keep employees engaged and enhance their overall learning experience. I have been able to apply this knowledge to build workshops and courses on other learning management platforms like Bridge with authoring tools like iSpring.
